Tabito is a Belgo-Japanese brand founded in 2013.
creating handmade upcycled jewelry in small series & unique pieces, based on antique or vintage jewelry and objects that have lost their functionality.
Tabito’s concept is based on upcycling which is the process of converting material or objects that have lost their use into better quality and value once. Another part is based on the essence of design in the sense that an object, a piece of jewelry does not only have to be beautiful but have to fulfill a certain functionality. Functionalities that you can find in our jewelry such as containing, magnifying, writing and many more. Travel is an import part of our concept too, hence our name tabito. Tabito is a japanese name that is written with two characters: " tabi " / travel & " hito " / human. travel in time by using antique’s or vintage and space by gathering jewellery or objects from different origin & countries like Japan and throughout Europe. Through this concept border of conventional jewellery are rethought and give birth to our unique upcycled jewellery collections. Jewels with a functionality and a history to wear as a treasure that tell’s a story.
Miho Takagi is born in Tokyo Japan. Her grand parents house was metal industrial company ( brass, copper and other metal supplier) at Asakusabashi Tokyo. She spent her weekend at her grand parents house since she was born. Scrap metal, metal parts, broken jewellery and decoration parts were her toy and also her treasures. She graduated Joshibi University of Arts and Design in 1993.
She moved to London UK, studied and graduated BA Silversmithing and Metalworks at the University of the Arts London , Camberwell College of Arts in 1998.
She started TABITO in 2013 in Belgium where she has an atelier now.
